2. Leap for Survival!
Environment, Rachael Antwis

More frog species around the globe are threatened with extinction than mammals, birds or reptiles, with nearly 2,000 species at risk now, and 121 extinct since 1980. Threats include habitat destruction, over-harvesting for the pet and food industry, and a number of diseases that have been spread rapidly by humans and climate change. I am interested in looking at how to keep frogs healthy in captivity, such as the red-eyed tree frog shown in this photo, so they can be bred and then re-released in the wild as part of conservation breeding programmes. It is hoped that this will help to protect some species from extinction in the future.
