More than skin deep

With over 8 million people in the UK living with a skin disease, dermatology research matters. As the most visible organ of the human body, we are all very aware of the appearance of our skin and the appearance of others. For many people however, living with a skin condition can go much deeper, and can have a profound impact on an individual’s emotional and social well-being.  Through research we can begin to unlock the secrets of the skin and ultimately improve a person’s quality of life. This is an exciting time for dermatology research- not only due to recent scientific advancements, but also because of an increased understanding of the need to treat the person as a whole. It is important to address the skin within the ‘bigger picture’ of a person’s life.
